This is a picture, again taken by my sister Terri McCormick of an injured baby seal. Terri volunteers at the California Wildlife Center in Malibu, on Sunday April 20 they went on a call out to Catalina Island to rescue a sick baby seal. When they got there they discovered the seal had a fisherman's hook in its nostril, as well as some other damage to the roof of its mouth. Emaciated and starving to death they brought him back to the mainland for much needed care. This demonstrates what carelessness can do. Fishermen, or just people fishing are often careless with their lines and just throw used, broken or tangled tackle into the water. Just like all the plastics that are ending up in our oceans, the marine life mistakes these items for food. The result is this California Seal pup, starving, bones showing, close to death.
Please be careful! Do not throw anything away into the water, it isn't just going to go away, it will likely harm one of the creatures of the sea. Whenever you are out in nature, if you take anything with you, take it out with you, leave no trace!

Such a sweet baby seal pup . . . PLEASE people, quit being such slobs and stop throwing your fish hooks, fish lines and other trash into the ocean!! It may come back to you one day when you eat fish or other seafood that has ingested your garbage, which in turn will cause you food poisoning. Think it's not possible?? If so, you are delusional. Please keep our oceans and environment clean. Either take your trash with you or place it in the proper trash receptacles. Do your part to keep our planet green!
I agree completely!!! It is sad that so many people are so careless and clueless as to what damage is being done to our surroundings, our environement. It is our responsibility, our duty to do what we can to ensure the survival of all creatures and that includes keeping the environment clean!
