"California is the "wildlife state." It boasts more species than any other, as well as the greatest number of endemics, those species found nowhere else. This extraordinary biodiversity is already stressed by the state's enormous human population and further threatened by continuing rapid population growth and development."
This is the opening line to an article in the Daily News that came out yesterday. It demonstrates why I have started Califauna, to educate our youth on the need to care for our environment, forests, mountains and deserts, for all of our natural areas and all that lives there. Go to the Daily News to read the entire article California's status as 'wildlife state' threatened by growing population by Leon Kolankiewicz. We simply cannot continue to destroy habitat in the name of progress. Something has to be done to stop rampant development in rural areas and instead invest in redeveloping urban areas so that our states rich wildlife can thrive.
